UK alum Dr. Alvin Simmons received the first Department of Entomology Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series Award on April 21. Simmons, who earned his Ph.D. from UK in 1987, is an entomologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service (ARS). Entomology department chair Dr. John Obrycki presented the award.
Dr. Simmons' talk, entitled "Vegetable insects: Healthy choices," was well-received and generated quite a few questions from those attending.
While in Kentucky, Dr. Simmons also had a chance to visit with his former major professor, Dr. Ken Yeargan, at Dr. Yeargan's farm where he and his wife raise llamas.
