Susan Moser Receives OTS Fellowship Award to Study in Costa Rica

The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) is a non-profit consortium of 63 universities, which includes the University of Kentucky. OTS offers graduate-level courses in biology, ecology, and agriculture. As a member-school, the U.K. offers a competitive OTS fellowship award to help incur the costs of tuition and travel for graduate students interested in taking these courses. Several graduate students in the Entomology department have been awarded this fellowship and have taken courses in Costa Rica. During fall 2007, a Ph.D. student, Susan Moser, spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica attending one of the new specialty courses offered by OTS, Tropical Agroecology. This course focused on agroecological theory, biological control, sustainable animal production, and issues in modern and organic agriculture. Current and past entomology graduate students Andy Boring, Janet Lensing, and Craig Stillwell, have attended the two-month course, Tropical Biology. The opportunity to take a field course in Costa Rica is just one of the many opportunities awaiting graduate students in the Entomology Department at the University of Kentucky.
Susan managed to break from studying long enough to bring back these pictures of Costa Rican insects (and other critters):

Moth

Bullet Ant

Longhorn Beetle

Wolf Spider

Leafcutter Ants
