Dr.
David Powell, UK equine epidemiologist, discusses the sequence
of recent events and the critical importance of the survey questionnaire
sent to horse farm managers.
Dr.
Powell, stresses that the problem is not related to the recent
disease outbreak in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, and emphasizes very
strongly how media can play a significant role in assisting the current
investigation.
Dr.
Lenn Harrison, director of UK's Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center
says there are no major disease outbreaks in other species.
Dr.
Roger Murphy, president of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association,
emphasizes that the investigatory process will take time and asks for patience
on the part of all concerned.
