"Numerous, long hours have been spent over the weekend  by members of the several investigative teams working diligently towards finding the cause of the Mare Reproductive Loss Syndrome.

The teams include our scientists at the University of Kentucky Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center, scientists and staff at the UK Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center, veterinarians, private sector consultants and others as needed. Around-the-clock efforts are being devoted to this serious horse industry problem.

We continue to be in the data collection and analysis phase. Numerous laboratories have been identified and samples shipped for analyses on a wide array of potential causal agents. Samples collected include but are not limited to forages, pasture, hay, animal fluid and tissue samples. In addition, our scientific teams are gathering input from researchers globally.

We are also developing a second questionnaire that will be sent to farms to gather additional field data, especially in the area of environmental  factors.

We appreciate the numerous inquiries and suggestions from the public; locally, nationally and from around the world.

It is extremely important for the investigating scientific teams to have has much uninterrupted time as possible to devote toward finding the cause of this serious problem. We also understand the need for the concerned public to be informed, therefore the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture will be posting a briefing to our web-sites at www.ca.uky.edu  and www.uky.edu/Agriculture/VetScience/gluck1 daily, in both text and audio format."
