The Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center, in conjunction with the Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers Club (TBFMC) and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association, conducted a survey of the TBFMC membership to obtain an estimate of early fetal losses in 2002. Of 265 questionnaires faxed to members on June 3, 92 (34.3%) were returned from farms in 10 counties. Preliminary analysis from data provided by the farms showed that of 2277 mares which were bred between February 1 and April 1, 2102 mares were still in foal as of June 1, for a 92.3% pregnancy rate. A more in-depth analysis of the information provided will be made available.
