From December 30, 2001 to May 11, 2002, 697 equine abortions had been submitted to the Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center (LDDC) for examination. During this same time period in 2001, 878 equine abortions had been submitted for examination.  During this same time period from 1996-2000 an annual mean of 566.8 equine abortions had been submitted for examination.  A total of 53 submissions during the week of May 5-11, 2002 indicate laboratory findings consistent with losses associated with MRLS.  Total submissions suspect of MRLS thus far in 2002 total 112.
