From December 30, 2001 to May 25, 2002, a total of 794 equine abortions had been submitted to the Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center (LDDC) for examination. During this same time period in 2001, a total of 988 equine abortions had been submitted for examination.  During this same time period from 1996-2000 an annual mean of 608 equine abortions had been submitted for examination.  A total of 13 submissions during the week of May 19-25, 2002 indicate laboratory findings consistent with losses associated with MRLS.  Total submissions suspected of MRLS thus far in 2002 total 160.
