Report from Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center

From December 30, 2001 to June 8, 2002, a total of 810 equine abortions had been submitted to the Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center (LDDC) for examination. During this same time period in 2001, a total of 1015 equine abortions had been submitted for examination.  During this same time period from 1996-2000 an annual mean of 628.2 equine abortions had been submitted for examination.  A total of 2 submissions during the week of June 2-June 8, 2002 indicate laboratory findings consistent with losses associated with MRLS.  Total submissions suspected of MRLS thus far in 2002 total 164.
