Report from Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center

From December 30, 2001 to June 22, 2002, a total of 821 equine abortions had been submitted to the Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center (LDDC) for examination. During this same time period in 2001, a total of 1020 equine abortions had been submitted for examination.  During this same time period from 1996-2000 an annual mean of 637.4 equine abortions had been submitted for examination.  A total of 1 submission during the week of June 16-June 22, 2002 indicates laboratory findings consistent with losses associated with MRLS.  Total submissions suspected of MRLS thus far in 2002 total 165.
