The beginning of egg hatch was noted during examination of eastern tent caterpillar egg masses on roadside wild cherry in Woodford County on March 17. Small larvae will remain on the egg mass for a time and then begin to move out to feed on leaf buds. Green tips are now visible on the buds of many wild cherry trees in the area.

Egg hatch will not occur all at once but will continue over a period of 2 to 3 weeks. It is too early to begin treatment at this time.
