Equine Viral Arteritis Testing

The OIE Reference Center for Equine Viral Arteritis will only accept blood samples for serological testing for equine arteritis virus infection from the following categories of horses:

1. Individual or groups of horses suspected of having equine viral arteritis;

2. Stallions being screened for presence of the carrier state;

3. Horses being tested for export purposes;

4. Stallions being screened to meet breed registration requirements;

5. Pre-vaccination testing of stallions and colts;

6. Pre-purchase screening of stallions;

7. Screening of horses for research purposes by prior agreement with Dr. Timoney or Dr. Balasuriya.

The virus neutralization test for EVA is normally put up on Tuesdays and the results read on Fridays of each week.  Because of demand for the test, please contact Ms. Kathy Shuck (859-257-4757, ext. 81170) to confirm when she can test any sample(s) you may wish to submit.
