The obstinate problems of today and tomorrow in our nation and world – poverty, family and community breakdown, restricted access to health care, hunger, overpopulation, global warming and other assaults on the natural environment – must be addressed by our universities if society is to have any chance at all of solving them.
~Kellogg Commission on the Future of State and Land-Grant Universities, March 2000
Research and Discovery
Faculty and professionals in the School of Human Environmental Sciences and Family & Consumer Sciences Extension pursue a wide range of research interests and activities related to the human sciences. These activities of discovery allow them to develop and experiment with new ideas, learn and acquire new methodologies and technologies, and collect and analyze information to answer important questions from the field. Research findings serve as the basis for further discovery, classroom instruction, and outreach programs designed to improve the quality of life for all Kentuckians.
