Biography

Dr. Ham's research has been focused on food-away-from-home expenditures, which was designed for market segmentation of restaurant industry. Another focus of her research is on the use of Information Technology (IT) for hospitality operations. Dr. Ham released numerous publications in prestigious scholarly journals, including Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, International Journal of Hospitality Management, and Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing. Her publication in the Journal of Hospitality and Leisure Marketing was awarded the Citation of Excellence Award in 2003 by the Emerald Publisher. In 2004, her scholarly work received the Best Research Paper Award at the Hospitality Information Technology Association (HITA) conference. She received the Best Research Paper Award at the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Education conference in 2005.

Dr. Ham teaches hospitality and tourism industry, event management, information technology, European study tour, and seminar & research methodology. She was awarded 2003 Outstanding Research Award and 2004 Outstanding Teacher Award by the School of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Kentucky.  In 2005, Dr. Ham became the first School of Human Environmental Sciences recipient of the Master Teacher Award from the Gamma Sigma Delta International Honor Society of Agriculture, University of Kentucky Chapter.

Dr. Ham has been actively involved in the professional organizations, including serving on the editorial board for Asia-Pacific Journal of Tourism Research and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology. Her international interest is reflected on her cross-cultural studies, and services to UK community (International Affairs Committee, Asia Center Steering Committee).
