What is the address for my web site?
The original web sites were located at http://www.ca.uky.edu/countyname (type in the full name of your county and not the words “countyname”). The newer county website address is http://ces.ca.uky.edu/countyname.

How do I open my Web?
Open FrontPage, go to File, then click on Open Web. In the box that says Folder Name type http://ces.ca.uky.edu/countyname then click open. It will prompt you for a username and password. This is the same username and password you’ve always used to upload pages. If it asks you for a domain, leave that blank. If you are not sure what your username and/or password are, contact the CIT Helpdesk. This will bring up a list of folders on the left side of your screen. You are now looking at all of the files and folders that are on the server.

How do I change the text on my homepage?
If you want to change the text on your homepage from the standard text, simply create a file called maintext.htm and save it in the top folder (http://ces.ca.uky.edu/countyname).

Can I have a hit counter on my pages?
By default, hit counters are not set up to work on the county web sites. You must notify the helpdesk if you would like to have a hit counter on your web site. Monthly reports stating how many hits a site has received are now available at the following location. http://www.ca.uky.edu/internal/reports/counties/

Can I have a form or other "special" function on my pages?
By default, forms and other "special" functions are not set up to work on the county web sites. While they are allowed, you will need to contact the CIT Helpdesk to have it enabled. If you have additional questions about a function, please contact the CIT Helpdesk.

How do I change my files?
Do not edit default.asp. Below is a list of links and where you can find the corresponding file to edit. For example lets say you want to change the text on the 4-H Youth Development page. You would double click on the youthdev folder to expand the contents of the folder. Then you would double click on the file maintext.htm. This will display the page on the right hand side of the screen. Simply make any changes and click on the save button. Go to your browser and click on the refresh button and your changes will appear. This same process will work for any other file that you might add to the web site.

* State News will always appear. If you edit the maintext.htm file it will add links under the State News Link.

I've got links to pages we don't use, like Horticulture. How do I get rid of that link?
Delete the maintext.htm file in the appropriate folder. The next day the link will disappear. If later on you want the link to reappear, just create a new page in the corresponding folder and name it maintext.htm. The following links are optional and can be removed  by deleting the maintext.htm file in the corresponding folder.

What pages will the CIT Center change for me?
If you want to change the text or add a picture on your homepage or upcoming events simply send the text or picture to the CIT Helpdesk and they will change it for you. The CIT Helpdesk will put links to .pdf files for newsletters.

How do I create a .pdf?
First you need to install a full version of Adobe Acrobat. Then create the document in any program you want (ex: MS Word, Publisher, etc.) and save the document. Next go to File menu and select Print. Change the printer to Adobe PDFWriter and click OK. You will need to give the document a name and location where you want to save it (ex: My Documents) you may also enter a title, subject, or author. After you say ok it will bring you back to the document you were working on. You may close that and go to the location you specified the .pdf was to be saved and open it by double clicking on the filename.

How do I get my file on the web?
Highlighting the folder you would like to add the file to, click on the file menu, and select import. Next, click on "add file", select the file to be added, and click "open". The file should now show up on the import list. Click on "ok" to start uploading the file to the web site. The file should now show up on the folderlist on the left. You can now create hyperlinks to the file (through the "insert" menu) or rename the file. For example, you could delete the original maintext.htm file, upload a new html file, and then rename the newer file to maintext.htm. This would make the page that you uploaded the new default page to be loaded for that section.

What is not supported on the FrontPage Server?
You can not use frames in your web. These are not supported by the server and are not ADA compliant. If you need further explanation about what frames are please contact the CIT Helpdesk.

If I have other questions, who can I contact?
You should contact the CIT Helpdesk. You can e-mail the CIT Helpdesk at cithelp@uky.edu or call 1-800-900-4447.
