The Boyd County Farmer’s Market once again was a thriving source of income for local produce growers. Total income for the three 2005 marketing locations was $102,979.
Part of this was due to the tremendous continued success of the Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program. With this program, coupons were given out to low income senior citizens and WIC recipients, and could only be redeemed at the local Farmer’s Market locations. $8,780 worth of senior coupons were distributed and were redeemed at a rate of 95% plus.
The WIC coupons, while not redeemed at this high of a rate, but at a rate over the previous year, still represented a significant amount of money to the local growers and good fresh produce for the recipients and their children.
