This year for the first year the Boyd County Extension Office offered local forage producers the chance to attend the American Forage and Grasslands Council annual conference, this year held in San Antonio, Texas.
The producers that attended have brought back what they learned and have been spreading it to other producers, as well as applying it themselves. Evidence of this is the number of acres that are being planned to go into new forage crops for this area, such as Appin turnip, and small grains for fall and spring grazing, as well as some new seeding techniques.
One producer has started a re-growth experiment on his farm for himself, based on information he learned at the meeting. And due to the word-of-mouth about the knowledge gained at this meeting, requests to attend next year have the numbers interested nearly triple of this years.
