Impact Statement

Youth Development

There has been a dramatic increase in methamphetamine production and use - locally, state wide and even nationally in recent years. This deadly and addictive drug has cost thousands in property destruction, medical needs and lost productivity. The Ag Agent has presented several programs to local groups and organizations as well as at the state level. These programs have been geared toward youth awareness and drug prevention. Five classes reached over 200 adults directly involved with youth development. Participants have expressed gratitude for their increased knowledge of the dangers and signs to watch for in the production of meth. One meth lab was reported to local authorities after the leader became aware of the indicators of meth production.

Walk Your Land was an additional program, geared primarily for adults, yet youth participated as well. This program encouraged increased physical fitness while increasing surveillance of private property to prevent covert meth production.

The Kid for a Kid program was developed by the Bullitt County Goat Producers to present qualified youths with their own meat goats. The program encouraged youth leadership in public speaking, goat production and record keeping.
