Title Farm safety Education

Impact Statement

1972 to 1992 saw 23 farm fatalities in Butler co. The Extension Service continues focus educational programs on this demonstrated problem.

These programs include, Safety demonstrations at our annual Farm Field Day (150 adults 30 youth) , ATV Safety Demonstration at our High School (600 youth), Two Farm Safety Day Camps, each involving over 170 youth, and our 4-H Tractor Safety/Tractor Driving program.

Formal and informal surveys show nearly 90+ percent of the public are aware of the dangers involved on the farm, up from 25% in the 1980's. While approx 3/4ths of farmers and young farm families say they habitually use safety precautions including safety glasses, ROPS, Safety Belts Helmets, or more aware of the dangers of chemicals, or exposed moving parts, much work is yet to be done.
