The Garrard County 4-H Council indicated Teens as a high priority of interest. Teens ages 14-19 seem to trail off in participation so the idea was to get as many that age as possible and hold on to the middle school aged youth. A good place to start seemed to be the Garrard County High School in the agriculture program where enrollment forms were passed out and teenagers had an opportunity to ask questions about 4-H. This was also a great opportunity to advertise upcoming State Teen Conference. Incidentally, 4 youth participated in STC, where three of the four teens decided to work for their bronze award for next year. Also a strong and brand new Teen Council was born with now 13 members. On the newly revamped District 4 Teen Council, four teens are from Garrard County. The big activity they planned for the year was D4 Teen Conference which these teens were very active roles in getting the job done. One other activity the Teen Council planned was a dance which was multi-county in D4. The results of this Teen Council being formed is grasping teens who can be apart of leadership activities as well as fun activities. One of the teens that is getting ready to go to college at UK asked for a recommendation for a scholarship and his participation in 4-H, was surely one of the key factors in receiving his scholarship money.
