This past program year marked the return of sewing/quilting programs for adults in Garrard County. this agent, having been an instructor for District, and even state sewing events sought to create easy sewing programs for beginners and even beyond on a local level.
Given any sewing class should have limited participants, 9 participants in a beginning pilolowcase/petticoat sewing class learned abouut using their sewing machine, gathering stitiches, making casings, hemming and embellishments.
14 participants in a Log Cabin Jacket Class worked extra hours to complete a unique garment made by learning how to use the rotary cutter, flip and sew quilt squares, combining colors for a pleasing end result, sewing over many layers, creating binding and attaching binding and creating a closure.
6 participants in a Tote purse class and 7 participants in a cluch purse class constructed unique one-of-kind finished projects from decorator fabrics, trims and beads. Participants learned how to sew through layers, attach trim and beads, and match fabrics to create these projects.
As a result of these sewing programs there have been requests for more beginner sewing classes and to increase quilting programs. Students learned new skills on their sewing machines and at least 4 participants have reported using their machines since for more home projects something they would not have done prior to completing classes in using their machines.
