With so much of the consumer dollars being spent on home décor items and the variety of TV programs on fixing up your home, a need for current information in Home Décor items was developed. This multi-million dollar business makes a big impact in our communities. A Homemaker Leader training, “Pillows, Pillows, Pillows,” was taught in eight counties of the Lincoln Trail Area in April 2006. Over 50 leaders from 76 clubs were taught the lesson, they in turn went back to their community and taught this lesson to their clubs in each county with a potential audience of 1426 people. Immediately after the lesson there was a short evaluation, then three months later a longer evaluation was sent to lesson leaders, with 40 clubs reported back. .
The lesson included information about purchasing pillows, making your own, choosing fabrics, current styles, recommended care and ways to update your home with the addition of pillows. Several ideas for quick sew, no sew and store purchased pillow were also shared. Of the 40 leaders who returned the 3 month survey 95% felt that the lesson met their interest and need for information about the current materials, products etc. on the market. The were pleased with the content, manner of teaching and felt that they would were more prepared to shop in today’s market for home décor pillows. The other aspect of the lesson included inexpensive ideas for making your own sewn pillows or quick no-sew pillows.
