Impact Statement

With the added requirements on teachers during school hours it has made it crucial that 4-H offer programming that can be included as a part of their curriculum. The Lawrence County Cooperative Extension Service involved all elementary schools in the public speaking and demonstration program this year.
Demonstrations numbering 300 were presented by youth on nutrition, food labeling, exercise and health improving knowledge of classmates on these areas. Over 450 youth presented a public speech to their class. 100 6th graders wrote on the environment and water quality while 350 presented a personal narative from portifolio work completed in class. A marked improvement has been noted over the past 10 years on quality of the written materials youth have presented.
