Impact Statement
One of the best ways to change attitudes and behaviors is to better educate our youth. The Lawrence County Extension Service acquired free environmental lesson plans, student workbooks, disposable binoculars and magnifying glasses. These were provided to the 21st Century Programs. Extension education included: Guided tours of the 4-H Wildlife Habitat and Nature Center situated at Lawrence County Park on Yatesville Lake. The habitat is used to further environmental education issues that effect our local environment.
Together with PRIDE funding we prepared 20 "Tackle Boxes" dealing with issues such as, soil and water conservation, native plant, bird, rock, insect and tree identification. Tackle boxes were checked out by teachers as well as groups such as boy scouts and youth day care. Students answered questions on the materials presented and related the importance of clean water, natural habitats for wildlife, and a clean community.
