Over the past few years, interest in goat production has reached an all time high. A majority of the people raising goats are not traditional livestock producers. Also, reliable resources for information on goat production are not easily available for these inexperienced farmers. This increase in inexperienced producers and the lack of unbiased good educational material led to forming a Goat Production Field Day in Meade County. The Meade County Cooperative Extension Service along with members of the Meade County Goat Producers planned and implemented a field day on a local producers farm. One hundred twelve people attended the evening event. University of Kentucky specialists, Extension Agriculture and Natural Resource Agents, and local vets educated participants on all aspects of goat production through a series of 5 tours. A cross section survey done on follow up farm visits showed that 100% of participants were not following recommended health practices, 54% have made changes in their health progrmas, and 27% will change their nutrition/forage program.
