Title
FSNEP
Impact Statement
Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program continues to be of great importance in Ohio County. Due to lack of funding on the state level, we have not been funded for the past two years. This year we did eventually get some funding and educational resources and incentives to aid in this program area. Some of our very successful programs for FSNEP audiences is:
* Senior Adult Commodity Distribution Site Demonstrations. With this program we reach about 50 senior adults each month. The FCS Agent and Program Assistant gives a food demonstration and food sampling. At the end of each 3 months the participants are surveyed on what the have put into practice. About 60% of the participants say the have tried at least one new recipe, 30% say they are using some of the commodities they were not previously using or using them in a new way.
* This year we included a county wide food pantry. We visited this site several times throughout the year. Passing out the Newsletter, and various food demos.
*Independent living is a group of handicapped individuals living is a group home. We do 2-3 programs a year, doing simple, nutritious meals and snacks they can easily prepare.
*Eagle Time–This is an after school program at the middle school. Extension FCS offered two separate 6 week classes on nutrition. One series was on fruits and vegetables, each week featuring a recipe from the Dole Cookbook. The second series featured nutritious snacks the youth could prepare at home.
