China Study Tour

When: Approx. three weeks after Spring final exams.

College: Scholarships to support the trip may be available.

China: Shandong Agricultural University will arrange for students' lodging, meals, transportation in China, and tour (2004, 2002, 2000 and typical itinerary).

Students: Cost - approx. $2,700/student (airfare, lodging, meals, transportation in China, and tour).

Visa to enter China - Office of International Programs will submit all visa applications to Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. 
Students can receive 3 credits for trip and the mandatory Spring orientation.

    Sunday, May 9, 2004:
    • Leave Lexington

    Monday, May 10:
    • Arrive Beijing - pick up at the airport, check in to the hotel

    Tuesday, May 11:
    • Visit Tian'anmen Square, the Forbidden City (Imperial Palace), the Temple of Heaven
    • Peking Duck Dinner (Quan Ju De Restaurant)

    Wednesday, May 12:
    • Visit the Great Wall (Ba Da Ling), the Ming Tomb (Ding Tomb with underground chamber)
    • Watch Peking Opera after dinner

    Thursday, May 13:
    • Visit Summer Palace, Beijing Alleys, courtyard houses (old Beijing local houses)
    • 10:20pm-05:13am. - night train (hard sleeper train) Beijing-Taian

    Friday, May 14:  Taian (a city in Shandong Province, where Shandong Agricultural University is located)
    • Arrive Taian, check in the hotel
    • Visit campus, farm, dorms, labs, gym
    • Meet President of Shandong Agricultural University
    • Banquet to the delegations in the evening

    Saturday, May 15:
    • Morning -- Visit departments, meet students, free activities
    • Afternoon -- basketball, ping pong ball, swimming with SDAU students

    Sunday, May 16:
    • Morning -- Visit some textile mill and garment factories
    • Afternoon -- country side, farmers
    • Evening -- Join performances with the SDAU students after dinner

    Monday, May 17:
    • Visit Qufu (Confucius descendents hometown), Confucius Temple, Confucius descendents Mansion and Confucius Forest (family tombs)

    Tuesday, May 18:
    • Climb MountTai, take #15 train (soft sleeper train) Taian-Xian (05:09pm-10:59am)

    Wednesday, May 19:
    • Arrive Xian, check in the hotel
    • Afternoon -- visit city wall, Bell Tower and the Goose Tower

    Thursday, May 20:
    • Morning -- visit Terra Cotta Army, History Museum
    • Afternoon -- fly to Chongqing, check in to the hotel

    Friday, May 21:
    • 09:00am -- Cruiser starts at Changjiang, Three Gorges start on Yangtze River
    • 03:30pm -- Off the ship to visit Fengdu (the ghost city in folk tales)
    • 06:30pm -- Return to the ship (sleep on the ship)

    Saturday, May 22:
    • Off the ship to visit Badi town 08:00-10:30am, visit Shennong Stream 02:00-05:30pm
    • Sleep on the ship

    Sunday, May 23:
    • Arrive in Yichang, Three Gorges end
    • Off the ship to the Airport
    • Yichang-Shanghai 04:20-06:00pm, check in the hotel

    Monday, May 24:
    • Visit old town, free market, the bund, Nanjing Road (pedestrian street)

    Tuesday, May 25:
    • Take a bus to Zhouzhuang (water township)
    • After lunch take a bus to Suzhou, visit Zhuo Zheng Yuan (Humble Garden), silk factory, watch Chinese instrument performance in Liu Garden after dinner

    Wednesday, May 26:
    • Visit Embroidery Institute
    • Boat tour on the Grand Canal
    • Take #5069 train Suzhou-Shanghai (02:45-03:45pm)

    Thursday, May 27:
    • After breakfast depart for the United States (airport tax not included)
