Nonprofit management workshop to be held in Hindman

LEXINGTON, Ky. , (Jun 3, 2009)

A workshop addressing management of nonprofit organizations will be held Tuesday, June 23 at Hindman Settlement School in Hindman.

The Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Initiative will host "Nonprofit Management 101," a workshop aimed at providing management education in the areas of board governance, fundraising, bookkeeping and volunteer management to small, grassroots 501 (c) (3) organizations. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EDT.

"This workshop is an ideal learning environment for those starting a nonprofit organization or for small grassroots organizations that need to strengthen their capacity, including faith-based and community organizations," said Danielle Clore, director of the Nonprofit Leadership Initiative. "The event will also provide leaders with a great networking opportunity."

The Appalachian Regional Commission is funding the workshop and scholarships for Knott County residents through a Brushy Fork Institute Flex-E-Grant. The Flex-E-Grant program provides investments in short-term projects designed to build community capacity to mobilize local resources, gain leadership experience and strengthen community networks in Kentucky's distressed Appalachian counties. The host, the Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Initiative, is an outreach program of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture that exists to serve, strengthen and support Kentucky's nonprofit community through education, training and technical assistance.

Registration for the workshop is $35 per person and includes materials, continental breakfast and lunch. Full scholarships are available for individuals residing in Knott County.
