Turfgrass research is the focus of July 8 field day
University of Kentucky specialists will present their most current research and information related to turfgrass during the Turfgrass Research Field Day July 8 at Spindletop Research Farm.
Registration for the free field day begins at 8 a.m. EDT.
"The UK Turf Research Field Day will showcase work that applies to all facets of the turfgrass industry in Kentucky, including lawn care for professionals and homeowners, sports turf managers, golf turf managers, sod farmers, etc.," said David Williams, UK turfgrass scientist in the College of Agriculture. "It is the very best way to stay up to date on answers to common problems in turf management at all levels."
Participants can choose to attend three of five tours that highlight different aspects of UK turfgrass research. All tours begin at 9 a.m. and run hourly until noon. Tour topics include turf and ornamental entomology, warm-season grasses, golf course turf, turf weed control and cool-season grasses. During each tour, UK researchers will discuss various research efforts related to the main topic.
The field day concludes with a free lunch at noon.
The UK Turfgrass Research Center at Spindletop Research Farm is located at 3250 Iron Works Pike in Lexington. From Interstate 75, take exit 120, the Kentucky Horse Park and Iron Works Pike exit. Drive about one mile past the Kentucky Horse Park. Watch for Field Day signs on the right to enter the farm. From New Circle Road in Lexington, take exit 9 Newtown Pike north to Iron Works Pike. Turn left at the four-way stop. Drive one-half mile and look for Field Day signs on the left to turn into the farm.
