Viticulture Field Day is June 26

The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture will join the Kentucky Viticulture Society to offer the 2011 Viticulture Field Day June 26 at Acres of Land Winery in Richmond.
The one-day event starts with registration at 11 a.m. EDT and Lowell Land, owner of the host winery and viticulture society president will offer an official welcome at noon. Field presentations will begin at 12:15 p.m. Topics include spring temperature extremes, reducing vineyard herbicides, calibration of airblast sprayers, vineyard pests and winery basics.
After a refreshment break at 2:30 p.m., UK agricultural economists will discuss an economic impact study and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture will host a wine-marketing session.
At 4 p.m., participants will hear from a winemaking focus group with representatives from Talon Vineyard and Winery and Horseshoe Bend Vineyard and Winery.
All proceeds from this year’s event will go to the Ruby E. Bailey Service Center to help children and needy families in the Bluegrass. Dinner is at 4:45 p.m. with food from Neal’s Smoke Box BBQ, wine from Kentucky wineries and dessert from Bourbon Barrel Confections.
Registration for Kentucky Viticulture Society members is $25 and $30 for non-members. Participants may register via mail or at the door. Although registration does include dinner, please call ahead to reserve a dinner spot to kvsdirector@gmail.com or 859-797-1798.
