Finalists for Dean of the College of Agriculture Brief Resumes Head, Department of Animal Sciences Purdue University Jeffrey Dyer Armstrong has a B.S. in Animal Sciences from Murray State, an M.S. in Physiology from North Carolina State University, and a Ph.D. in Physiology from North Carolina State University. Dr. Armstrong is currently head and professor, Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University. Prior to assuming this position in 1997, Dr. Armstrong was Assistant Director of Academic Programs and Director of the Agricultural Institute, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University (1996 - 1997), and interim Assistant Director for Research and Academic Programs, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, North Carolina State University. Dr. Armstrong is recipient of several awards including Alumni Outstanding Teacher Award, North Carolina State University (1993) and the Young Animal Science Award- Research from the Southern Section American Society of Animal Science (1995). Dr. Armstrong is a member of the Board of Directors, National Institute of Animal Agriculture and is President of the American Society of Animal Science. Dr. Armstrong has published nearly 50 articles and book chapters; has over 80 published abstracts from scientific meetings and over 35 other publications. Associate Director, Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station Oklahoma State University Donald C. Coston has a BS in Horticulture from North Carolina State University, an MS in Horticulture from Michigan State University, and a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Michigan State University. Dr. Coston is currently Associate Director, Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station, Oklahoma State University and professor in the Department of Horticulture. Since assuming this position in 1995, Dr. Coston has also served for two years as interim Associate Director of the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service. Prior to coming to Oklahoma State University, Dr. Coston served as Associate Dean for Agricultural Research/Associate Director of the South Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station, Clemson University. Dr. Coston is a Board member of the National Center for Manure and Animal Waste Management and a member of the Experiment Station Committee on Organization and Policy (ESCOP). Dr. Coston has been Chair of the Southern Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors and President of the Southern Region American Society for Horticultural Society. Dr. Coston has published nearly 30 articles and book chapters; has over 35 published abstracts from scientific meetings and nearly 30 other publications. Associate Director, College of Agriculture/Iowa Agricultural and Home Economics Experiment Station Iowa State University Colin Guy Scanes has a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Hull University (U.K.), and a Ph.D. in Protein Chemistry from the University of Wales (UK). Dr. Scanes is currently Associate Director, College of Agriculture/Iowa Agricultural and Home Economics Experiment Station at Iowa State University, Interim Director, Plant Science Institute at Iowa State University and, professor of Animal Sciences. Prior to coming to Iowa State in 1995, Dr. Scanes served as Chair, Department of Animal Sciences at Rutgers University for fourteen years. Dr. Scanes is recipient of several awards including the Iowa Soybean Promotion Board Award for Service to the Industry (2000), the Cook College (Rutgers University) Award for Academic Innovation and Creativity in teaching at the undergraduate level (1995), and the Rutgers University Board of Trustees Excellence Award for Research (1986). Dr. Scanes is a member of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC) Board on Agriculture Biotechnology committee and lead administrative advisor to the National Animal Genome Research Project. Dr. Scanes has published seven edited books, over 300 articles and book chapters; has over 200 published abstracts from scientific meetings, and holds three patents. Associate Dean for Research, Associate Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station University of Kentucky M. Scott Smith, has a B.A. in Biology from Cornell University, an MS in Soil Biochemistry from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Soil Microbiology from Michigan State University. Currently, Dr. Smith is Associate Dean for Research, Associate Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station at the University of Kentucky and, Professor of Agronomy. Prior to assuming this position in 1999, Dr. Smith served as Chair of the Department of Agronomy at the University of Kentucky for 10 years. Dr. Smith is recipient of several awards and recognitions, including election as a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy (1990) and selection as technical editor of the Journal of the Soil Science Society of America. Dr. Smith is Chair Elect of the Southern Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors; has served as Division Chair of the Soil Science Society of America; and, has been Panel Manager for a Fund for Rural America program. Dr. Smith has published nearly 60 articles and book chapters; has over 50 published abstracts from scientific meetings and over 20 additional publications. |
