Producing Sweet Sorghum and Syrup DVD - Order this University of Kentucky
produced DVD which reviews all aspects of producing a sweet
sorghum crop. It includes tips on variety selection, planting site
requirements, transplants vs seeding, fertilization, harvesting
techniques, and syrup processing alternatives.
Update on Sweet Sorghum in Africa - Ntagara Thadee from Rwanda,
Africa visited our 2006 Annual Meeting.
He is now setting up for ethanol and syrup from sweet sorghum. His
company is looking for investors from the NSSPPA. He has a 5-year
contract for ethanol and small processing for syrup operations. He will
be planting sorghum in September, December and January.
Suckering of Sweet Sorghum Plants - I have had several calls
and/or email messages asking: "Why is my sweet sorghum suckering so
badly?" I looked at our plots and they are all suckering badly. I
think it has to do with the wet, hot weather this year, but I don't feel
like it will hurt your crop and probably will produce more juice than
normal.
