POULTRY Level 1

Scratching the Surface explores how to identify and select different species and breeds. You will learn the parts of poultry animals including eggs and feather features as well as feeding, handling, washing and showing techniques. Available through National 4-H Council.

POULTRY Level 2

Testing Your Wings explores how to recognize sickness early, identify parts and functions of a bird, how an egg is formed. 4-H'ers are also taught about judging, pecking order, selecting hens, feed tags, advertising poultry products, and preventing poultry diseases. Exploring farm animals (Leader's manual)

Learn about farm animals by getting involved in hands on activities! This project covers horses, goats, rabbits, pets, beef cattle, pigs, poultry and dairy cattle. You will identify species, products, terms, and animal body parts, and learn how to care for and feed farm animals. You will also gain knowledge on how to work with animals safely. Several worksheets and games are included. Available through National 4-H Council.

 Explore the world of small animals

Shares the health, nutrition, and care of small animals for you
to better understand them and their unique needs. This project is divided into three areas: Health, Nutrition, and Care. Each lesson plan includes an opening, hands-on activities, discussion questions, games, songs, books, and a parent newsletter, as well as an evaluation. Produced by Washington State 4-H.

This paperback book targets youth in grade 5 and above as well as adults helping them with their projects. The book is a resource for both beginning and experienced chicken owners. A children's reference book for grades 3-12 is written in easy to understand language that features information on selection, housing, feeding, health, behavior, and showing. A great resource for 4-H leaders, teachers, and first time animal owners. Available through National 4-H Council.

Poultry Learning Lab Kit - Ohio State University
This kit is developed for grades 4-12 and includes units on anatomy, breeds, meat & eggs, quality assurance, equipment & facility management and selection & evaluation. These popular kits provide the basis for interactive learning experiences. Kit components include posters, labels, statements, demonstration items, and charts. All posters, charts, prints and situation/task statements are laminated for increased durability with answer keys on the reverse side.
