TURKEYS - VARIETY SELECTION

Technically there is only one breed of turkeys with several varieties

Definition of heritage turkeys (American Livestock Breeds Conservancy)

There are only two species of wild turkeys in the world - the North American and the Ocellated. All the domestic 'breeds' of turkeys orginated from the North American wild turkey. The Ocellated turkey is native to the Yucatan Pennisula in Mexico.

The turkey is the only type of poultry that was domesticated from wild stocks native to North America. All other domestic poultry originated in other countries and were later brought to the United States.
