Poultry grower education programs
Environmental stewardship is a great concern for poultry producers. Education programs were conducted for all poultry growers on addressing environmental issues and the Ag Water Quality Act. A follow up program addressed phosphorus-based nutrient management.
Kentucky poultry energy efficiency project
This project is a joint partnership between the College of Agriculture's Departments of Animal and Food Science and Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering together with the Kentucky Poultry Federation and is funded by the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board. Kentucky growers have access to energy and money saving tips.
National Poultry Improvement Program
The National Poultry Improvement Program is a disease control certification program. All commercial hatcheries and over 2.5 million breeding hens in Kentucky are certified under this program, coordinate through the Kentucky Poultry Federation. All small flocks are coordinated through the State Veternarian.

Poultry 4-H program
The 4-H poultry program consists of six different programs that are designed to use various aspects of poultry to instill life long skills.
Egg Preparation Demonstration Event: Participants develop a presentation on eggs as they prepare an egg recipe. Skills developed include: Communication, public speaking, knowledge of function and nutrition of eggs as well as food safety.
Poultry barbeque events: Participants prepare either chicken or turkey on a charcoal grill. They are evaluated on skill of preparation and sensory evaluation of the final product. Skills developed include: Food safety, safe use of fire, food preparation, communication.
Embryology and development of the chick: Participants witness the development of the chick as it is incubated in classrooms and other locations. Lesson plans are available for all grade levels. Skills developed include: Understanding the life cycle, scientific method, and communication skills.
Poultry judging: Participants evaluate poultry products (meat and eggs for consumer grades) and evaluate hens for past egg production. Skills developed include: Communication, decision making ability, knowledge of consumer grades of poultry and eggs.
Avian bowl: Academic quiz bowl based on knowledge of poultry and poultry products. Skills developed include: Team work, communication, knowledge of poultry.
