Kentucky: By The Numbers

The Census defines a family as "A group of two or more people who reside together and who are related by birth, marriage, or adoption." Related children is defined as including "all people in a household under the age of 18, regardless of marital status, who are related to the householder." This issue of "Kentucky: By the Numbers" provides data on families with related children living below poverty. This is one of a series of several profiles produced by "Kentucky: By the Numbers" examining different aspects of poverty at the county level in Kentucky.

While the poverty
rate for single parents (male or female) tends to be higher than that for
married couples, in over 58 counties in Kentucky, there are more married
couples with children living in poverty than single mothers.
