Come celebrate and Get HAAPI!

GET HAAPI KY invites you to celebrate the Heritage of Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders with cultural activities every weekend in May in honor of AAPI Heritage month!

  • Friday May 3rd, 2024 - Moondance Amphitheater will host a night of music, dance, food trucks, and more featuring multi-instrumentalist and composer Jon Silpayamanant as well as local and regional dance groups. Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Event is free.
  • Friday May 10th, 2024 - Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning will host a night of poetry, music, and an international tea tasting. Doors open at 6 p.m. Event is free
  • Friday May 17th, 2024 - During Gallery HOP, Lexington Public Library Central Branch 3rd Floor will be hosting a juried show of AAPI artists along with performances ranging from dance to music to a fashion show. Plus Teppan Food Truck will be serving delicious Japanese snacks out front. HOP begins at 5 p.m. Event is free.

 HAAPI movie weekend at the Kentucky Theater

  • Thursday May 23, 2024 - 7:30 p.m. Yellow Rose - Broadway superstar Eva Noblezada stars as a Filipina teen in Texas grappling with her undocumented status while striving to become a country singer. The movie will be preceded by a musical performance from Yoko Nogami.
  • Friday May 24, 2024 - 10 p.m. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle - The stoner classic features Kal Penn & John Cho on a night full of misadventures. The movie will be preceded by a hip-hop dance performance from The Fam Foundation. Audience members will also be treated to sliders & fries from Tuk Tuk Snack Shop.
  • Sunday May 26, 2024 - 3:30 p.m. - Turning Red - From Disney Pixar, this coming of age story of giant proportions follows a Chinese-Canadian teen as they grapple with culture, puberty, and boy bands. Film preceded by storytime with Yvonne Hwang.
